Frequently Asked Questions
- 1. How does Life Source Basics work?
- Life Source Basics enhances the immune system by activating macrophages and neutrophils, two of the most abundant immune cells in the body.
- 2. Is Life Source Basics safe?
- Life Source Basics contains WGP 3-6 with yeast beta glucan, which has been part of the human diet for thousands of years in the form of bread. Life Source Basics extracts and purifies the beta glucan from food-grade Baker's yeast, which is permitted for use in food by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (21CFR170.30).
- 3. What research supports the effectiveness of Life Source Basics?
- There are numerous clinical and preclinical studies demonstrating the ability of Life Source Basics to enhance the responsiveness of the immune system. See our Learning Center for the citations and abstracts of studies published in peer-reviewed science and medical journals.
- 4. How often do I need to take Life Source Basics?
- The body has millions of immune cells, also known as white blood cells, which are constantly being renewed so take Life Source Basics daily for maximum benefit.
- 5. How does Life Source Basics compare with other immune supplements?
- Some supplements, such as Echinacea and zinc, are recommended for only short periods because of the danger of over-stimulating the immune system. But Life Source Basics is safe for daily use so you can ensure that your immune system is always at peak performance. Most other beta glucan products do not contain enough active ingredient to be beneficial or use a less effective source of beta glucan, such as mushrooms or cereal grains.
- 6. Is ‘Micronized’ beta glucan better?
- There is a large body of research demonstrating the effectiveness of Life Source Basics in humans and animals. Research claiming the efficacy of submicron particles are based on test tube (in vitro) studies. Don’t be fooled by marketing gimmicks about “micronized” beta glucan.
- 7. What is the optimal dosage?
- Based on extensive research, Life Source Basics has established a recommended human dosage of approximately 2 milligrams of beta glucan daily per kilogram of body weight.
- 8. Is it safe for children?
- Yes. Life Source Basics has a Children’s Chewable product designed specifically for children ages 2 and older. The product is available in both orange and berry flavors.
- 9. Is yeast superior to other beta glucan sources?
- Not all beta glucans are equal. Substantial research demonstrates that yeast beta glucan has far superior immune-enhancing benefits when compared with oat and barley beta glucans. The disparity is attributed to differences in the molecular structure of the glucans, which affects biological activity. Mushroom-based glucans have demonstrated immune-enhancing benefits similar to yeast beta glucan, however, they are more difficult to process and purify.
- 10. How important is beta glucan purity?
- The difference may have significant health consequences. As with many foods, a small portion of the population should avoid Baker's yeast. Extensive research has demonstrated that a component of the yeast cell called “mannan” may trigger an allergic reaction or inflammatory bowel flare in individuals with yeast allergies. Unfortunately, some beta glucan dietary supplements manufacturers fail to adequately separate the beta glucan from the mannan and mannoproteins and other components of the yeast cell.
